Tuesday 13 April - 19:00
"The Cheetah Challenge in South Africa". Kelly Marnewick spent the past 10 years working with these predators outside conservation areas. She will present the result of a research project conducted in the Thabazimbi area. Creative methods were used to study the cheetahs in the dense vegetation on privately owned and fragmented land. Some of the methods used included questionnaire surveys, camera trapping, collaring, and the very innovative use of a dog trained to sniff for scat (droppings), as well as Anatolian Guard dogs to protect live stock. The extension work done with farmers over a 10 year period changed attitudes, contributed to cheetah conservation and made a good contribution to our knowledge of cheetahs outside protected areas. Kelly's talk will give you some insight into the wildlife industry and field-based research. 18:30 for 19:00, Talk R55 per person, Dinner R105 per person.

WINE EVENING "Strandveld Wines"

Strandveld refers to the coastal belt of land which straddles the coastline around the Cape Agulhas. This confluence of maritime climate and varying sites and soil types create the diversity of terroir that distinguishes the wines of Strandveld. Conrad Vlok, the winemaker, enthuses; "First Sighting is wine for drinking and enjoying. True to its coastal origins, you will find that slow ripening has yielded generous flavours," 18:30 for 19:00, R170 per person includes dinner.
