WOODMEAD - GOLF

Woodmead has two 18 hole golf courses, Woodmead and Rocklands. Only one course is open on Mondays, the other is closed for maintenance. The courses are open every other day, except Christmas and New Year.

This 600 Hectare estate is gifted with 180 species of bird and 14 dams, which irrigate the two championship courses and are well stocked with numerous kinds of fish.

Originally designed by the Hawtree family of Golf Architects based in England both courses have recently been refurbished by the South African course design and construction company, Golf Data.

The courses are grassed with Kykuyu on the tees, fairways and semi- rough like most South African golfing establishments. The greens are constructed to USA specifications and are seeded with the hybrid grasses L93 Bent on Woodmead and Pencross Bent on Rocklands.

WOODMEAD

On the Woodmead course significant changes have been made which include profound mounding in strategic places and dams that were previously hidden, have become part of the aesthetics. This is a parkland course and the fairways on many of the holes are lined with large exotic trees.

Don’t let the beauty of this layout distract you, as this challenging course requires the golfer of any level to concentrate throughout the round. It is a test of intelligence rather than strength and offers a stimulating experience to those who play it.

ROCKLANDS

The Rocklands course is designed with the indigenous South African bushveld as the backdrop and also includes numerous water challenges for the golfer. Carved out of the original Cullinan Farm from which the land was purchased in 1968 this course was created to blend in with the environment and reflect a beauty and tranquility essential to the abundant bird life on the estate.

This is a course that offers a fine tapestry of undulating fairways, bent grass greens and beautiful water features giving each golfer a memorable challenge unequalled anywhere in the cities of South Africa.

The courses compliment each other and offer the golfer the choice of two very different golfing experiences. The wealth of natural resources has been blended together creating a harmonious balance between nature and the urban development surrounding the estate.

FACILITIES

The magnificent golfing facilities include; three fulltime teaching golf professionals, a coaching academy with superb practice range, two putting greens, excellent service and friendly staff.

THE CLUB SHOP

The club shop is well stocked with a wide range of soft goods and golfing hardware. The “Sandwedge” halfway house is recognized as one of the finest in the country offering the golfer a perfect break between the round. What ever your choice is don’t forget to visit the splendour of the spacious clubhouse which has a comfortable members bar and large terrace, with outstanding views to enjoy your Sundowner. Alternatively, end your day with a perfect meal in the Hedgehog Grill.

The aim of The Country Club Johannesburg is to continuously improve the course and clubhouse facilities in the quest to give the Golfer the best golfing experience available.
